Velázquez and the golden ratio

Several texts have mentioned in the past years, although in a very subtle way, that the golden ratio might have been used by Velazquez in his works. The intention of this article is studying that possibility from new perspectives, such as the analysis of several compositions and geometric shapes, as well as the analysis of the mathematical-symbolic properties which the painter might have considered interesting enough to be used in his paintings. An new interpretation of the paintings Inocencio X and Las Meninas is presented here from the analysis of the coincidences found for the compositions involving the gold ratio.
